I have only recently came back to Google newsgroups due to a few good Google parenting newsgroups. I have found Newsgroups to be useful as they allow you to post a message asking for advice or a place to come and discuss ideas. But the disavantage of the newsgroups is, (as displayed on soc.libraries.talk) the newsgroup can be filled with advertisments and also there can be a lot going on and your post can get missed or even not answered.

It's interesting to learn you are already using Google Groups outside of work. As you indicate, the libraries group may be a little too busy - but hopefully you can still glean useful comments and ideas.
